About Us

Mckenzie Deaton

I was born and raised in Oxford, Mississippi, and from an early age, I always knew I wanted to work with animals. Growing up, I was the kind of person who wanted to bring home every animal I crossed paths with! My love for animals has only grown over the years, and I feel incredibly lucky to work in a field where I get to care for them every day.

At home, my little animal family includes two dogs, Hobo and Coco, and two cats, Boosie and Sookie. If I had the space, I would probably have even more!

Working in veterinary medicine allows me to combine my lifelong passion for animals with helping provide them the care, love, and attention they deserve. I’m proud to be part of a profession that helps pets and the people who love them.

As long as I can remember, I have been passionate about all kinds of animals. This interest brought me into the veterinary sphere early in my life. I have worked in veterinary clinics for over 30 years and specifically at Animal Care Center for 15 years. It is a challenging job and I appreciate the wide range of cases that we see as well as getting to know clients and patients alike. After a lifetime of having dogs, I now just enjoy my cat Roux. I have been blessed with two amazing daughters (Haley and Heather) and I get to work daily with one of them.

I have been a proud member of the Animal Care Center team since 2018, beginning my journey as a Kennel Assistant and growing into my current role. Over the years, I have gained valuable experience as a veterinary technician while also taking on responsibilities such as scheduling and supporting the day-to-day needs of our staff and facility.

Throughout my time at the Animal Care Center, my compassion for animals has remained at the heart of everything I do. I take great pride in supporting animals and their families in any way I can and in being part of a team committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care.

Outside of work, I am a proud dog mom to four dogs of my own. They bring me just as much love and joy as the animals I have the privilege of caring for every day.

I am an Oxford native that can call Mississippi home for my entire life. My love for animals began at an early age, inspired by watching Steve Irwin and The Crocodile Hunter. Today, that passion continues through my work life and my life at home with my grey tabby, Jorah.

In 2011, I began working at Animal Care Center, a decision that ultimately became the start of a rewarding career dedicated to the care and well-being of animals. Over the years, I have developed a strong appreciation for the veterinary field and enjoy being involved in many aspects of daily hospital life. You can most often find me in the treatment area running laboratory work, assisting Dr. Sullivan in surgery, or working alongside Dr. Franks.

Outside of work, I am a lifelong Ole Miss fan with a particular love for Rebel baseball. During baseball season, you can often find me cheering from the stands at Swayze Field at home games. I also enjoy strength training with hopes of competing in a powerlifting competition one day, following professional e-sports (especially League of Legends), and making my weekly Thursday-night visit to SoLa for their popular ramen night.

Whether at the clinic, in the stands at Swayze, or spending time with Jorah, I bring my genuine passion for animals and my strong connection to the Oxford community to everything I do.
